SPSS® Software

SPSS software is licensed annually and expires every December 31st.

Wayne State University currently licenses the following SPSS products for:

Base Package

  • Base - Data analysis and reporting
  • Advanced - Data analysis using advanced modeling procedures
  • Regression - Data analysis using regression procedures

Package A

  • Maps - Used for visualizing geographically distributed data with symbols, colors, various charts, and themes
  • Tables - Used for preparing customized tables for presentations

Package B

  • AMOS - A stand alone product used for analyzing structural equation modeling
  • Answer Tree - A stand alone product that performs analysis using decision-tree algorithms
  • Categories - Used to predict outcomes based on assigning numerical quantifications to the categories of the variable(s)
  • Exact Tests - Used for analyzing rare occurances in large databases and work more accurately with small sample sizes

Package C

  • Conjoint - Measure how individual product attributes affect customer preferences
  • DataEntry Builder & Station - A stand alone product used to design forms and surveys, collect, and clean survey data
  • Missing Value Analysis - Used to diagnose missing data and take action based on more valid conclusions

Package D

  • Trends - Used for analyzing and forecasting time series models by a comprehensive set of procedures

SPSS License Distribution and Use

Licenses are based on the calendar year and expire each December.

Full-time and part-time faculty and staff are eligible to purchase SPSS products according to WSU's licensing agreement. This does not include Voluntary Faculty, Retirees, etc. Please call if you are unsure about your eligibility.

Use of the software is permitted only:

  • On hardware owned or leased by Wayne State, located on Wayne State premises
  • On home computers and laptops of employees for work-related purposes
  • In university designated student labs

Labs are defined as separate areas with five or more computers that are designated for student use. Discount pricing on the Base Package is available for computers used in student labs. Additional packages can also be purchased for lab computers at listed prices. Research laboratories are not eligible for student lab pricing.

Licensing of SPSS includes upgrades to the most current version of SPSS at no charge.

When an employee leaves Wayne State University, he/she is no longer entitled to use SPSS software purchased from the Software Clearinghouse. The software must be removed from the employee's computer and destroyed or returned to the Software Clearinghouse.

Users must have a current, licensed copy of SPSS Base, Advanced and Regression to install the Tables, Trends, Missing Value Analysis, Maps, Catagories, Conjoint and Exact Tests modules.

Installation Instructions

SPSS 14.0 requires that you not only install the program, but authorize it as well. We have prepared detailed instructions on how to do this. A copy of these instructions is provided with each new SPSS purchase, but this online copy is available for your reference.

Stand Alone Renewal Instructions

The following SPSS Stand Alone Products for Windows are NOT renewed using the License Authorization Wizard:

  • AMOS 5.0 and below
  • Answer Tree
  • Data Entry Station and Builder

These instructions show the process for renewal:

Patches

The most current patches for SPSS are:

  • For the Windows version 14.0.2
  • For the Macintosh version 11.0.4

You may download the patch from the following site:
http://support.spss.com

Click the "Login to Online Tech Support" link on the menu on
the left side of the page.

Click "Login". You'll be prompted for a username and password.
Enter "guest" for both fields. From here you can access the
patches and their corresponding documentation.


Ordering Software

To begin the online ordering process you will need:

  • IRB or personal check number
  • Computer serial number
  • End User's AccessID
  1. The primary user(s) of the software must log into Calltracker by clicking the "Buy Software" button below, select a purchase option (Microsoft Home Use Software, or All Other Software), and fill out an online order for the desired software.
    • One order ticket can be filled out for multiple types of software.
    • Each user must enter their own order and accept the End User Agreement but multiple users with different software orders can use the same IRB number.
    • Students lab orders should use one computer serial number. The additional serial numbers should be sent in a Microsoft Excel document and returned via e-mail to clearinghouse@wayne.edu.
  2. After entering your order online, send the encumbered IRB or check (made out to "Wayne State University") to the Software Clearinghouse.

  3. After the physical IRB paperwork AND the online order is received, the Software Clearinghouse will mail your software by Campus Mail.

    If you would prefer to pick up your software, please note this preference on your IRB form or check.

Please note that all software orders are final. Once software leaves the Clearinghouse, it cannot be returned or exchanged. If you have questions about software or ordering it, please call the Clearinghouse beforehand.
